Hohenstein is situated on the plateau of the Swabian Jura at a height of 750 m above sea level. The formerly independent villages Bernloch, Eglingen, Meidelstetten, Oberstetten, Ödenwaldstetten form now the community of Hohenstein with about 3,750 inhabitants. Reutlingen is about 30 min away by car.
Ödenwaldstetten has achieved a popularity through its farmhouse museum which exists since 1978. To the 5,8 ha large and well-kept museum complex belong two buildings from 1600 and from 1859 which document the living and working on the Swabian Alb from those times. The idyllic outside area has a historical farmer garden with plants and herbs from the Swabian Alb. The inside of the buildings show the living and working rooms in detail. Craftmen such as shoemaker, weaver, basket maker, and much more show their handcraft skills.
The museum team takes the visitors on a tour which will have fascinating highlights . In addition to the information of the rural way of life, they tell anecdotes and stories from earlier times. Afterwards, the visitors are invited to stay on the museum area, to go on a discovery tour or simply to enjoy the silence. There is also a barbeque site - but you can also go to the restaurants in Hohenstein and enjoy the delicious Swabian delicacies. The excursion trail, the natural reserve and the castle Hohenstein round off your unique leisure time in Hohenstein. On foot, by bike or in winter on skis, the area is ideal for recreation.
