Reutlingen is situated in one of the most beautiful regions of the Swabian Jura. Its character is formed by romantic medieval half-timbered houses, modern architecture, lively shopping areas and cosy streets - and a 770m local mountain which offers a fantastic panorama view on the city and the Swabian landscape. Urban districts are Altenburg, Betzingen, Bronnweiler, Degerschlacht, Gönningen, Mittelstadt, Oferdingen, Ohmenhausen, Reicheneck, Rommelsbach, Sickenhausen and Sondelfingen.
Many buildings are testimonials of Reutlingen's past as an imperial town: The "Tübinger Tor" or the St. Mary´s church which is one of the most beautiful building in Baden-Württemberg that was marked as a national cultural monument in 1988. Some of the half-timbered houses are museums and theatres now and those are actively used in today´s daily life in Reutlingen.
A glimpse into the past of the medieval city is given by the walk through the Spreuerhofstreet, which shows and offers the narrowest place with only 31 cm and is therefore stated in the Guinness Book of World Records .
Reutlingen is the ideal "base-camp" for excursions into the region. The most beautiful landscapes of the Swabian Alb can be found here. There are many hiking and biking routes which lead for example to the romantic castle of Lichtenstein, the castle of Hohernzollern or the caves as the bear or fog cave.
